A plate compactor moves soil. A roller finishes a surface. If you are patching asphalt, laying a driveway, compacting a base course or rolling a parking-lot repair, a double drum roller leaves the flat, sealed finish that a plate simply cannot — and it does it at 197 ft/min, which is walking pace with a machine doing the work.
The BTDR700Y is fully hydraulic: a hydraulic pump and hydraulic drive motors, with infinitely variable travel speed in both directions rather than a fixed gear. Vibration is mechanically driven, giving 22.2 kN of centrifugal force at 55 Hz. There is a removable anti-corrosive sprinkler system feeding both drums, which is what stops hot asphalt picking up on the steel and tearing the mat you just laid.
At 1,808 lbs this is a serious machine, and the safety design reflects that: travel requires both hands on the handle through deadman controls, there is a back-up stop pad that halts reverse travel if the operator is pinned, a mechanical parking brake that engages against the drum stops, and an emergency stop via the engine decompression lever. The Yanmar L100AE diesel is electric-start with a 12 V battery, and the whole drivetrain includes a dedicated clutch arrangement for cold starting.
Key Features & Benefits
- Double smooth drum with beveled edges — a flat, sealed finish, and the bevel keeps the drum from cutting a line into fresh asphalt
- 22.2 kN (approx. 4,990 lbf) centrifugal force at 55 Hz (3,300 VPM)
- Fully hydraulic drive — hydraulic pump and motors, infinitely variable speed forward and reverse
- 197 ft/min (60 m/min) travel speed — covers ground without rushing the operator
- Yanmar L100AE diesel, 10 HP, electric start — diesel torque and diesel hours, not a gas engine working hard
- Removable anti-corrosive sprinkler system feeding both drums — comes out for cleaning instead of corroding in place
- Two-hand deadman controls plus a reverse back-up stop pad — the operator cannot be dragged or pinned
- Mechanical parking brake engaging against the drum weld stops
- 30% gradeability — ramps, shoulders and sloped approaches
- Large rubber shock mounts isolating vibration from the operator, 9.66 m/s² hand-arm

About the width. This machine is commonly listed as a "28 in." roller. That figure is the overall machine width of 700 mm (27.6 in.) — the compacting drum itself is 650 mm (25.6 in.). We publish both because the drum width is what determines how many passes your job takes, and buying a "28 in. drum" that turns out to be 25.6 in. is exactly the kind of surprise that ends in a return.
Two more figures worth knowing: Beton Trowel's current 2024 datasheet gives 55 Hz, 30% gradeability and a 35–38 L tank, while an older factory sheet and their web page give 48–62 Hz, 40% and 60 L. We publish the current datasheet's figures. Crated shipping weight and fuel tank capacity are not published by the factory and we will not invent them. Beton Trowel also builds this frame with a KAMA 186FE engine — this listing is the Yanmar build, and we confirm the engine on every order.
