Thirty tons is the point where a log splitter stops being a homeowner tool. Knotty oak, elm, twisted crotch wood, rounds too big to lift — the pieces a 20-ton machine stalls on are the pieces this one goes through.
The machine converts between horizontal and vertical, which is the feature that saves your back. Rounds you can lift go on the beam horizontally; rounds you cannot lift get rolled to the splitter and split standing up on the ground. On a big day of firewood that is the difference between finishing and not.
The hydraulics are commercial: a 5 x 24 in. trunnion-mounted cylinder with a 2 in. rod, a 13 GPM two-stage pump, 8.5 gallons of oil and four-stage filtration. Trunnion mounting lets the cylinder float slightly under load instead of putting bending stress on the rod — that is why a well-built splitter lasts twenty years. Cycle time is about 14 seconds.
The 8 in. high-carbon steel wedge carries a heavy-duty log dislodger, so a piece that grabs the wedge gets pushed off on the return stroke instead of being pried free by hand. The 25 in. log opening takes serious rounds, and it is tow-ready with a 2 in. coupler and highway-rated tires.

Brave has not published video footage of this model. There is footage of the VH1730GC, which is the same 30-ton frame with a residential GC190 engine rather than this commercial GX200 — some sellers put that video on this page, but it is a different machine and we have left it off.
