Crary Bear Cat builds commercial wood chippers in Fargo, North Dakota, and has been doing it since the 1970s. The line runs from a 228-lb walk-behind you can push around a yard to a 9-inch, Kubota-diesel, road-towable machine that municipalities and rental fleets buy by the pallet.

What separates Bear Cat from consumer chippers is the rotor. Cantilever-mounted discs keep stringy, sappy and wet material from wrapping the shaft, four-sided adjustable anvils let you index to a fresh striking edge instead of replacing a part, and every blade is reversible heat-treated steel. The towable models carry a standard 2-inch coupler and highway-rated tires, so the machine that chips on site is the same one you tow there.
