We’re Here When You Need Us

A plate compactor is the wrong tool in a trench. Plates work by vibrating a wide footprint across the surface; a rammer works by hammering a narrow shoe straight down, which is what actually compacts cohesive soil — clay, silt, mixed backfill — in the confined space around a pipe or against a foundation wall. If your spec calls for compaction in lifts in a trench, this is the machine that passes the test.

The BTR78Y is the diesel rammer in Beton Trowel's range, running a Yanmar L48. That matters on a rental fleet or a crew that already runs diesel: one fuel on the truck, no gasoline cans, and a compression-ignition engine that tolerates the constant pounding better than a small gas engine does. It delivers 1,600–1,800 kgf of impact force at 640–680 blows per minute, with a 50–75 mm (2–3 in.) jump.

The shoe is 280 x 300 mm and the machine weighs 80 kg (176 lbs) — heavy enough to drive energy into the lift, light enough for two people to handle onto a trailer. Drive is through an automatic centrifugal clutch, so the shoe is still at idle and engages as the operator opens the throttle.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Diesel — the only rammer in this range that runs the same fuel as the rest of the fleet
  • 1,600–1,800 kgf impact force (approximately 15.7–17.7 kN) — cohesive soil, not just granular fill
  • 640–680 blows per minute with a 50–75 mm (2–3 in.) jump
  • 280 x 300 mm (11 x 11.8 in.) shoe — fits a standard utility trench
  • Yanmar L48, 219 cc air-cooled OHV diesel, recoil start
  • Automatic centrifugal clutch — shoe idles still, engages on throttle
  • 2.5 L fuel tank — the largest in the three-rammer range
  • 12 m/min travel speed

Straight talk about the force figure. You will see this machine advertised as "4,046 lbs. force," and separately as "4,046 ft-lb" — the second is simply the wrong unit. You will also see "13,276 lbs" in some dealer spec tables, which is roughly 59 kN and is not physically plausible for a rammer of this size. Beton Trowel publishes 1,600–1,800 kgf, and that is what we publish. 4,046 lbs is the top of that range expressed in pounds-force, so it is defensible — 13,276 is not.

Beton Trowel publishes no crated shipping weight for any rammer in this range, and we will not invent one. The 176 lbs above is the machine's operating weight.

Shipping

This machine ships by freight. Shipping is quoted to your exact address and confirmed with you before anything is charged — we do not estimate freight. Tell us on the quote form whether the delivery site has a forklift or a loading dock, because that changes the rate more than the distance does.
