That wheel weight is the specification that matters most and the one people overlook. A heavy wheel carries rotational momentum through the cut, so the machine keeps grinding when it meets dense heartwood instead of bogging and chattering. Nine teeth rather than six means more cutting edges in contact and a smoother, faster result. Dual-bolted teeth stay put — single-bolt teeth work loose and get thrown.
The Kohler CH440 makes 14 HP and 22.7 ft-lbs of gross torque at 3,600 RPM through a direct belt drive. At 234 lbs it loads onto a trailer or into a truck bed without special equipment.
