The Powermatic PJ882 is an 8-inch parallelogram jointer with an extra-long 83-inch table and a 2 HP, 230V single-phase motor. The cutterhead runs at 7,000 RPM with 3 straight knives.

The parallelogram design allows independent adjustment of sections of the infeed and outfeed tables, so the tables remain parallel with the cutterhead and with each other. A 1/8-inch depth limiter knob controls how much comes off in one pass.

Straight-Knife Cutterhead

Three 8-inch straight knives turn at 7,000 RPM for 21,000 cuts per minute, and an aluminum knife gauge is included for setting them.

Fence and Controls

The 38 x 4-3/4 inch fence tilts 45 degrees forward and back with positive stops at -45, 90 and +45 degrees, adjusted with a single handwheel. The start/stop switch mounts on a switch arm and has a magnetic safety key.

Powermatic jointer questions

Can it run on 115V?

No. Powermatic’s manual says the single-phase jointer is designed for 230V only and should be on a dedicated circuit of at least 20 amps.

How deep can it cut?

Up to 1/8 inch per pass across the full 8-inch width. It also cuts rabbets up to 1/2 inch.

What is a parallelogram jointer?

Powermatic’s parallelogram design allows independent adjustment of sections of the infeed and outfeed tables, so the tables remain parallel with the cutterhead and with each other.
