Beton Trowel BTPC240Y Reversible Plate Compactor — 18 In. Plate, 35 kN Force, Yanmar L70 Diesel

A forward plate compacts in one direction and has to be dragged back. A reversible plate drives forward, backward and holds on the spot — which is the whole job in a trench, against a foundation wall, or anywhere there is no room to turn a machine around. The BTPC240Y does that on a hydraulic reversing mechanism, not a mechanical linkage, so the operator changes direction with a lever rather than a wrestle.

It puts down 35 kN of centrifugal force at 85 Hz (5,200 VPM) through a 700 x 450 mm plate. The high frequency matters more than raw force on granular fill: a fast, shallow-amplitude plate settles sand, gravel and paver base without pushing the material around, which is why this size is the one that ends up on utility and hardscape crews rather than the biggest machine available.

Power is a Yanmar L70 air-cooled diesel with electric start. Diesel is the right answer on a compactor: the machine spends its life at full throttle in dust, and a diesel at 3,600 rpm will outlast a gas engine doing the same duty. At 573 lbs operating weight it is heavy enough to do real work and still manageable on a trailer with the optional transport wheels.

Specifications

Two honest notes. Beton Trowel publishes the operating weight as 260 kg on its product page and brochure and 270 kg in the machine manual; 573 lbs is the 260 kg figure that every source agrees on, and the 594 lb shipping weight is the one published crated figure. Compaction depth and lift capacity are not published by the manufacturer for this machine and we will not estimate them — if your spec calls for a documented lift, ask and we will put the question to the factory. The rubber mat is listed as an option in the product description but as "not available" in the same document's spec table; we confirm it at order rather than promising it.
