Bear Cat CH4420 Wood Chipper — 4-Inch, Road Towable, Briggs XR Pro 13 HP

The Bear Cat CH4420 is the towable chipper for the property that generates brush every week without justifying a 1,600-lb hydraulic machine. Four and a half inches of capacity, a 13 HP Briggs & Stratton XR Pro, and a standard 2-inch coupler so it follows a pickup or a UTV from the woodlot to the burn pile.

It uses the same cantilevered rotor design as Bear Cat's commercial machines. That matters most on exactly the material a small acreage produces — green, sappy, half-wet limbs — because there is no shaft behind the disc for stringy material to wrap around. Feeding is gravity and self-feed rather than hydraulic, which is the honest trade for the price and the weight: you feed it, it takes it, and there is one less hydraulic system to service.

Two reversible heat-treated blades on a 14-inch cantilevered disc, a four-sided adjustable anvil you index instead of replace, and a double-banded belt drive. At 465 lbs it tows easily and stores in a corner of the shed. Built by Crary Industries in West Fargo, North Dakota.
