MechMaxx 1440GV 14" x 40" Variable Speed Metal Lathe
The MechMaxx 1440GV is a 14 in. x 40 in. metal lathe with a 3 HP motor on a variable frequency drive, running on 220V single-phase power. It swings 14 in. (356 mm) over the bed, 19-3/4 in. (502 mm) over the gap, and holds 40 in. (1,016 mm) between centers.
Spindle speed is infinitely variable from 40 to 1,800 RPM through a belt drive. The D1-5 camlock spindle has a 2 in. (51 mm) bore and an MT6 taper, so larger stock can pass through the headstock.
Infinitely Variable Speed
Speed is set with a knob instead of by changing belts or gears: 40-600 RPM for threading, boring and heavy cuts, 600-1,800 RPM for finishing and small diameters.
Inch and Metric Threading
Cuts inch threads from 4 to 56 TPI and metric threads from 0.4 to 7.0 mm pitch.

MechMaxx 1440GV questions
What power does the 1440GV need?
220V, 60 Hz, single-phase at 20 A. MechMaxx's manual says it must be connected to a grounded source and wired by a qualified electrician. It will not run on a 110V household outlet.
Does it have gears or belts to change speed?
Neither for speed changes. The spindle runs through a belt drive, and the variable frequency drive sets the speed anywhere from 40 to 1,800 RPM with a knob.
How big a part can it turn?
Up to 14 in. in diameter over the bed, 19-3/4 in. over the gap, and 40 in. (1,016 mm) between centers. Bar stock up to 2 in. passes through the spindle.
How heavy is it to receive?
MechMaxx lists a net weight of 1,800 lb and a shipping weight of 1,900 lb, so it arrives by freight truck. Plan for a forklift or engine hoist to unload and set it.
What is the warranty?
MechMaxx covers the 1440GV with a 1-year warranty and lifetime technical support by phone or email.
