The Powermatic 15BHH is a floor-standing 15-inch thickness planer for shops that want an industrial-grade finish without stepping up to three-phase power. A 3 HP, 230V single-phase motor drives a helical cutterhead across the full 15-inch width, and it takes boards up to 6 inches thick.

It has a built-in digital readout, so you can dial in an exact thickness and come back to it on the next pass, and it carries Powermatic's 5-year warranty.

Helical Head, Smoother Finish

The cutterhead runs 4 rows of 48 four-sided carbide inserts at 5,200 RPM. Compared with straight knives, a helical head cuts quieter and leaves a cleaner surface, and when an insert dulls or nicks you rotate it to a fresh edge instead of resetting a whole knife.

Two Feed Speeds

Run 16 FPM for a finish pass or 28 FPM to take stock down fast. Cast iron infeed and outfeed tables give a 48 x 15 in. support surface for long boards.

Powermatic planer questions

Does the 15BHH run on single-phase power?

Yes. It has a 3 HP, 230V single-phase motor drawing 14.5 A. Powermatic recommends a 30 A circuit.

How thick and how wide a board can it plane?

Up to 15 inches wide and 6 inches thick. The minimum is 1/8 inch thick and 8 inches long.

How deep can it cut in one pass?

The maximum is 3/32 inch across the full 15-inch width. Powermatic's manual recommends up to 1/8 inch per pass on boards up to 6 inches wide, and 1/16 inch per pass on boards 6 to 15 inches wide.

What happens when the inserts dull?

Each carbide insert has four cutting edges. Rotate it a quarter turn to a fresh edge, and replace it once all four are used.

What warranty does it carry?

Powermatic covers it with its 5-year warranty (2 years for commercial or industrial use).
