Powermatic 1632 16-Inch Open-End Wide Belt Sander, 5 HP, 230V 1Ph
The Powermatic 1632 is a 16-inch open-end wide belt sander with a 5 HP single-phase motor and a 17 x 54 inch belt running at 2,200 SFPM. Because one side is open, panels up to 32 inches wide can be sanded in two passes.
It runs on single-phase 230V power and takes stock up to 5 inches thick at 15 or 32.5 FPM.
Air-Controlled Belt
Compressed air tracks and oscillates the sanding belt so it stays centered and wears evenly, and limit switches at both ends of the upper roller apply the brakes if the belt runs off.
Front Controls
Controls sit at the front with a load meter, so you can watch sanding pressure in real time and avoid overloading the machine.

Powermatic wide belt sander questions
How wide a panel can it sand?
16 inches in one pass. Because the end is open, you can turn the panel and sand up to 32 inches in two passes.
Does it need three-phase power?
No. It runs on 230V single phase and should be hard-wired to a dedicated circuit.
Does it need compressed air?
Yes. Air runs the belt tracking and oscillation; Powermatic sets normal working pressure at 75 PSI.
What dust collection does it need?
At least 800 CFM on the 4-inch port.
What warranty does it carry?
Powermatic covers it with its 5-year warranty (2 years for commercial or industrial use).
